Journey to Honduras
First United Methodist Church of Lawrence
 
When: July 1 – 8 , 2012
 
Where: Tegucigalpa, Honduras
 
Team Project: Construction, worship, fellowship – Specific project TBA
 
Why: Because God calls us to go out to help and serve others!
 
Team Size: Maximum 12
 
Cost: $1200 – 1500 (subject to airfare); $100 due with application; $700 due by March 10; balance due April 15.
 
Applications: Available on church website or contact Paula Biggar. Applications due February 1, 2012, but early application is encouraged.
 
Qualifications: A desire to help others!
 
Accommodations: TBA
 
Requirements: Safe and Sacred Spaces training (many dates throughout year at FUMC; team training: May 6, 2012 12:00 pm
 
Physical Requirements: Ability to walk to work site and do physical labor in hot conditions
 
Typical daily work schedule:
 
Wake up: 6:30 am
 
Breakfast: 7:00
 
Work: 8:00 – 4:00 with break with juice and snack. Drinking water available
 
Lunch: Hot lunch served at the work site, usually from 12:00 – 1:00
 
Rest and clean up time: 4:00 – 6:00
 
Dinner: 6:00  
 
Team devotional: evening after dinner
 
Worship: We will attend a various services in the evenings during the work week in addition to services on Sunday.
 
Cultural day: The last day of our trip will be a cultural visit.
 
Conditions: Temperatures could range from around 75 – 90+ degrees. Work outside could be in hot conditions, although there is often an afternoon shower. Drinking water available and rest breaks encouraged as needed. Moderate walking from hotel to church and work site 3 – 4 times a day is possible depending on site.
